PRE-ORDERS BEGIN AS WEBSITES
START LISTING
A press release by Nokia India
is slated to be held on January 10 in Delhi
with simulcasts in Mumbai amongst other cities. There is no official word on
what exactly this conference is going to be held for, but in all probability,
it is going to be for the official launch of the much awaited Lumia 920 and
820. What’s more, some online mobile retail websites have already put up the
Lumia duo up for pre-orders. The Mobile Store has already put up the phones in
its range of colours up for pre-order, with the Nokia Lumia 920 for Rs. 39,999
and the Nokia Lumia 820 for Rs. 29,999. Both the phones up for pre-order can be
bought in black, yellow, white and red colours. The site mentions that the
product will start shipping on January 12, but also has a disclaimer put up
that states, “The above price is only a pre-order price. Actual Price may vary.
We will refund the difference upon confirmation of actual price.”Flipkart, on
the other hand, has a tantalising ‘Coming Soon’ written next to all variants of
the Lumia 920 and 820 handsets. They’ve been listed for a slightly cheaper Rs.
36,999 and Rs. Rs. 26,999 respectively. Once users have registered with the
site expressing interest in any of the handsets, Flipkart will inform them
about when the pieces will be in stock.
Our
sources in the grey market are not so easy on the pricing though. The on-street
pricing of the Lumia 920 is about a cool Rs. 5,000 more than the website
pre-order listing, with a hefty Rs. 45,000 being quoted as the price to pay in
order to receive the high-end Windows 8 handset as soon as it is launched. The
Nokia Lumia 820 too is priced slightly higher at Rs 33,000 as the market price.Nokia’s
official website, on the other hand, features a cool blue sash across the
upcoming Lumia devices with a ‘Coming Soon’ plastered across. The Finnish
giants are squeezing every bit of curiosity out of the Indian audiences.
The
Lumia 920 is priced in Singapore
at SGD 899, which roughly translates to Rs 40,750, whereas the Lumia 820 costs
SGD 699, which is approximately Rs 31,700. However, one should not expect the
prices to be the same when the handsets come to India—the additional taxes
could make the devices cost a bit more.Coming loaded with a polycarbonate body,
the Nokia Lumia 920 features a Snapdragon S4 processor as well as a PureView
sensor. It also comes with the Blink app, which is the smartphone's Burst mode.
The Windows Phone 8 smartphone will feature an LCD display, which is a little
better than the HD displays available now.
The
Lumia 920 has 32GB inbuilt storage, an 8.7MP primary camera and a 1.2MP front
one. The younger sibling Lumia 820 is powered by 1.5GHz Qualcomm S4 dual-core
processor. It comes with an 8MP rear camera and a VGA front camera. Both phones
support wireless charging. We will be bringing you more from the impending press
conference as and when the news is released.
